Reading Whole School

We strongly encourage pupils to read to an adult five times a week as part of their homework. There are ‘Top tips for reading helpers’ in the middle of your child’s reading record to support you. The importance of reading with an adult at home cannot be over-emphasised even in the upper school. Please record each session completed in your child’s reading record.

Foundation Stage

When it is appropriate to your child, pupils will be set key skills to practise at home. This will help develop your child’s English and maths skills. These may include key words, sounds, numbers or number facts to learn off by heart. Please practise these daily.

Year 1

In addition to reading five times a week, your child maybe given additional reading activities to support decoding and comprehension skills.

Year 2

In addition to reading five times a week, your child maybe given additional reading activities to support decoding and comprehension skills. Year 2 are also set maths tasks on-line through mathletics. Each child has an individual username and password to access the site on a PC, Mac or tablet. The homework can be accessed through: www.mathletics.co.uk .

Years 3-6

In addition to reading five times a week, your child will also be set maths tasks on-line through mathletics. Each child has an individual username and password to access the site on a PC, Mac or tablet. The homework can be accessed through: www.mathletics.co.uk. Your child is also expected to know their times tables up to 12 x 12. To support this, children will be set additional tasks using Times Table Rock Stars.

Children in years 3,4,5 and 6 will also receive a topic themed homework grid for each term. This will contain a variety of activities which pupils can choose from to complete. The minimum expectation is to complete two tasks over the term. Children are welcome to complete more if they wish. Tasks completed are shared, displayed and celebrated in school.
