Forest School provides an excellent opportunity to bring learning to life, allowing children to explore, investigate and learn in a constructive way. This type of education is known to increase self-confidence, self-esteem and improve individuals’ ability to work co-operatively. It gives children opportunities to take risks, make choices and initiate learning for themselves whilst discovering more about the natural environment.

Our Forest School Leader structures and plans activities for each session, which are clearly linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. However, the aim is to make the Forest School sessions as child led as possible with opportunities for imaginative play and exploration.

The woodland we use as our Forest School site is an area of woodland within private farmland. The children travel in minibuses to the site which is approximately 3 miles from our school. Part of our Forest School experience includes walking alongside the arable fields and through woodland areas. This is an important part of the experience as over the year the children observe and discuss, seasonal change, the annual farming cycle and get the chance to walk through and jump in puddles!
