Oaks visited Colchester Castle this week with the rest of Year 4. They had a fanstastic day exploring The Iron Age, The Roman Takeover and The Roman Heyday. The children went into the Roman vault under the castle and they were shown the Roman temple that was originally built before Bouddica and The Celts burnt it down. They were then shown how the castle was built and what would happen if the Celts refused to do their job. We also had a go at building a Roman villa or an Iron Age roundhouse so we could compare the differences. Finally the children walked around the museum to collect information in their packs.

Some children from John Bunyan Primary School took part in Remembrance Sunday by laying a wreath of poppies on the War Memorial in the public gardens.

Year five have been using chemistry to learn about chemical irreversible changes in science. We learnt that you can make Casein plastic from white vinegar and warm milk and this practise was started in the 1900's! We also found out that chemical changes cannot be reversed but they can be a bit smelly!

We were finding out about electrical conductors and insulators today in science.

We were really surprised that the orange became a conductor and lit the lamp!

We had our harvest assemblies today in KS1 & KS2. There was lots of great singing and a wonderful amount of food collected for the food bank.

KS2 hall with the learning champions from Spruces.         KS1 hall at the end of school
